HRV - Telemetric system for pathophysiological stress evaluation
Technology description
The name of the technology: | HRV - Telemetric system for pathophysiological stress evaluation |
---|---|
Challenge: | Heart rate variability (HRV) is physiological fluctuations in heart rate that reflect activity of the autonomic nervous system. The HRV can be used as an objective indicator of the body's response to physical and mental stress or over-work. The idea of monitoring employees using HRV is to manage work packages to prevent risk of injury, burnout effect or errors due to inattention and exhaustion. Currently, there is not used any similar monitoring of employees, primarily because there is no available diagnostic tool for this purpose. |
Description: |
We have developed unique algorithm for evaluation of HRV indexes of Athletes from RR intervals. The RR intervals are measured by newly programmed android application, which also communicates with computing serves, where evaluation of HRV indexes is performed, and displays results and recommendations for further training. It will be necessary to modify the application for monitoring of employees, which are exposed to physical or mental stress. The modification needs some minor changes in application and adding of recommendations relating to work. The application communicates with Bluetooth Smart chest straps, which was practically tested with Polar H10 and Suunto Smart Sensor. HRV is measured in two body positions - standing for 1 minute and supine for 2 minutes. A questionnaire with subjective feelings is a part of the measurement. The measured data are sent to the computing server where artifacts are filtered and HRV indexes are evaluated using mentioned algorithm. The results are then sent back to the application for viewing to the user. The results and recommendations can also be viewed in the web interface. |
Commercial opportunity: | HRV technology is already used for sport training and measurement of over-training, but it is not routinely used for monitoring of employees. Currently, the old model for measurement with different evaluation algorithm of HRV is used for example at Třinecké železárny, where there is a high risk of serious injuries. The old model but requires measurement in the examination room, is not easily portable and the measurement itself takes 15 minutes. Compared to the old model, our new system uses brand new and more advanced algorithm, which enables us to shorten the hole procedure to just 3 minutes. Moreover, because of hardware of the technology consist of commercial available chest strap and smartphone, use of the technology is not limited by capacity of examination room etc. and everybody can make measurement for example after arriving the work or at home. |
